US President George W Bush appreciated Bangladesh government's decision on banning Islamist group Harkatul-Jihad-Al-Islami as a "great decision". President Bush requested Bangladesh Ambassador to Washington Shamsher M Chowdhury to convey his appreciation to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, said a foreign ministry release in the city Sunday, reports UNB. In a brief discussion at the White House, the ambassador apprised the US President of steps undertaken by Prime Minister Khaleda Zia "to uphold the moderate image of Bangladesh". The discussion took place at an Iftar party hosted by the US President recently at the White House. Ambassador Chowdhury focused on Bangladesh's "continuous effort to root out terrorism from its land". President Bush, who is leading a global 'war on terror', agreed that Bangladesh deserved due recognition and attention for its effort to eradicate terrorism and to exercise the rule of law.
