Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has been passing a severe crisis as former national footballer and the federation's joint secretary Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu Sunday refused the offer to lead the national football team as team-leader cum-manager, reports BDNEWS.
The national team are scheduled to leave Dhaka tomorrow (Tuesday) for Yangoon, Myanmar to play the Four-Nations International Football Tournament beginning Thursday.
BFF General Secretary Anwarul Haque Helal admitted Chunnu's refusal and said, "We will take the decision about the team-leader and manager today (Monday)."
The grave situation arose when all the members of National Team Management Committee, led by Quazi Salahuddin resigned from all responsibilities with BFF protesting the dishonour of the committee decision by the executive committee on the issue of selecting Myanmar-bound team officials.
The other members of the committee, who resigned are: Imtiaz Sultan Johny, Golam Rabbani Helal, Abdus Salam Morshedi and Syeed Hasan Kanon.
Kanon was selected by the committee as team manager, which was protested by Amirul Islam Babu, who himself declared a contender for the post.
The federation also faced another blow when treasurer Shah Alam Chowdhury gave a written ultimatum demanding a chamber for the treasurer in the BFF house.
The treasurer has no specific room in the recently built BFF House.
Shah Alam Chowdhury, in the letter addressed to the president and the general secretary, mentioned, "The office of the 'Treasurer' of any National and International Association ranks 4th in order to status of which you are well aware, I believe."
According to the AFC and FIFA, the treasurer stands after the position of the association's president, senior vice-president and general secretary.
"It is not possible for me to work as treasurer without any specific room in the BFF House," he told journalists.
Chowdhury has threatened not to issue any cheque unless he was allocated any chamber.
He also told to the journalists he signed all cheques but he didn't check any vouchers against those expenditure, this problem created for not allocating separate chamber to me and was not given scope to go through the files.
"I should not take any risk of financial irregularities, if any," he said. He, in this regard, pointed out his confusion about the bill of interior decoration of the BFF house amounting to Tk 6.0 million (60 lakh). "I didn't find vouchers of around Tk 3.0 million."
He said about the present critical situation of the BFF, "The president couldn't take the perfect decision in resolving the disputed issue of team manager for the national team and I like to say that, this is not the perfect leadership."
Shah Alam Chowdhury also said, "The BFF high officials didn't discuss with me to take any decision at policy level."
BFF treasurer said about the resignation of Salahddin, "I think Salauddin took the right decision."
He said about the causes of the crisis, "The person who himself created the main problem is a 'burden' to the country's football and everybody knows his previous activities."
BFF senior Vice-president Monir Ahmed also supported Salahuddin's stand and accused Amirul Babu of generating such crisis in the history of BFF.
BFF President SA Sultan has discussed the whole issue with State Minister for Youth And Sports Fazlur Rahman Patal Sunday.
