Hasina urges united resistance against BNP-Jamaat misrule
10/24/2005

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina urged people from all walks of life to build up united resistance to rid the country of the misrule by the BNP-Jamaat alliance. She made the appeal while addressing a roadside rally at Srinagar in Munshiganj on her way to Tungipara from Dhaka Sunday, reports BDNEWS.
Thousands of helpless and half-fed people in the northern districts of the country are slowly dying but the government seems to be indifferent to these starved people, she said.
The AL chief observed that more the government continues to reign the more the sufferings of the people will increase, adding, the failed government has no right to stay in power any longer.
Lives of people have become shattered due to the skyrocketing of prices of essentials including rice, lentils and oil, Sheikh Hasina alleged.
Referring to the government's lukewarm attitude towards the price spiral, the Leader of the Opposition said that thousands of youths were out of work and the expenses had doubled while the income of commoners had not gone up.
Providing a contrast between her tenure and the present government Sheikh Hasina said, "During our tenure there was good governance and the prices of essentials had not gone up even during the holy month of Ramadan and the prices of essentials were within the reach of commoners."
The government has released from jails 70,000 terrorists accused of different kinds of criminal activities including murder for their party interest, the AL chief further alleged.
The Leader of the Opposition told the rally that the entire country had now been turned into a sanctuary of terrorists.
Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh presided over the rally while AL leader SM Kamal Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Srinagar Upazila secretary Tofazzal Hossain, among others, were present at the rally.
