Tri-nation U-19 cricket
Bangladesh down Sri Lanka
12/5/2005

A blazing century from Raqibul Hasan powered Bangladesh to an emphatic 62-run victory over Sri Lanka in the Tri-nation U-19 Cricket tournament at BKSP in Savar Sunday, reports BDNEWS.
The hosts recorded the third consecutive victory in row after beating England U-19 by four runs and five wickets in two consecutive matches.
It's the first defeat in two matches for Afro-Asian runners-up Sri Lanka, who beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in the Afro-Asian U-19 Cricket tournament in India recently.
After Tamim Iqbal's ton against England, it is Raqibul Hasan, who has been included the home side after a superb performance for the High Performance (HP) Squad against England U-19 in five practice-match, hammered a classic 121 off 112 balls featuring 10 fours and a six.
Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 281 for seven in 50 overs after deciding to bat first as Raqibul Hasan hit ton and Mehrab Hossain Jr a half-century.
Though Bangladesh lost centurion batsman Tamim Iqbal (18) on 25, another opener Mehdi Hasan and Raqibul repaired the early damage putting on 73 runs for the second wicket stand before being separated.
Mehdi (35 off 64 balls) was caught by Cooray off a Karunaratne delivery on 98.
Soon after Sakib Al Hasan (8) also returned the pavilion and Raqibul paired with Mehrab added a significant 128 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Karunanayake bowled Raqibul on 254.
Mehrab scored 54 off 80 balls with four hits to the fence while Sahwardi Shuvo made 13 off 15 with two fours and a six.
Weerasinghe and Karunanayake grabbed three wickets each for 45 and 66 runs respectively.
Chasing the huge total, the visitors scored 219 for seven in 50 overs with skipper Mathews adding an unbeaten 97 off 110 balls featuring eight fours and four sixes.
Sri Lanka was tottering at 78 for six in 19.5 overs at one stage, and number six Mathews and Cooray played patiently to contribute 83 runs playing 22.2 overs, but they could not avoid the defeat.
Coory scored 39 off 79 balls that included two fours.
