Bumper harvest of T-aman likely
11/7/2005

BARISAL, Nov 6 (BSS): Framers are expecting a bumper yield of T-aman in 11 districts under Barisal Agriculture Extension Zone (BAEZ) during the current season.
Talking to the news agency, additional director of BAEZ Mokhleshur Rahman said the T-aman harvest this year would be as much as the last year's in the region. He said a total of about 2.37 million tonnes of T-aman paddy is expected to be produced in the zone this year.
He said favourable rainfall and climate as well as timely supply of seeds of the high yielding variety and other inputs to the farmers had contributed enormously towards the better growth of T-man plants this year.
During the current season, a total of 0.747 million hectres of land were brought under the T-aman cultivation which is at least 43,709 hectres more than the last year's target in this zone, official sources said.
Out of the total land, about 0.266 million hectres were brought under the imported high yielding variety while the rest under the local high yielding variety.
Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) supplied all inputs at reasonable prices and sold about 15 million kgs of seeds of the high yielding variety to the farmers, who prepared over 53,643 hectres seed-beds for T- aman cultivation.
