Strees on policy measures against malpractices by docs FE Report 8/10/2005
The health ministry should have a clearly defined policy and responsibilities to ensure quality health services for the people. Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club Tuesday, principal medical officer of Komani Hospital of South Africa Sirajul Islam, said the ministry must formulate a code of conduct for doctors so that patients can lodge complaints against professional negligence and malpractices. He also said that the ministry should form a medical council to investigate complaints lodged by patients against doctors. In this connection, he said bar associations should encourage the patients to go to the court of law in such matters. Medical council will investigate the complaints and take proper actions accordingly, he added. Sirajul Islam, who has been living abroad for long suggested that the government should involve all its foreign missions in hunting jobs and businesses abroad for skilled people like neighboring India.
