A five-wicket haul by national pacer Shahadat Hossain Razib put Dhaka Division in an advantage position at the end of day one of the four-dayers in the Ispahani Mirzapure Tea 7th National Cricket League against Sylhet Division Sunday, reports BDNEWS.
Defending champions Dhaka scored eight for one at stump after wrapping Sylhet up for 225 runs in 76.5 overs at Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.
Chittagong Division also enjoyed a lively day against Khulna Division scoring 120 for one at stump after bowling Khulna out for 192 before tea at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium.
The touring Barisal Division scored 181 for seven when the bails were drawn for the first-day at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium.
Mohammad Sharif, the man behind Dhaka's win in the one-dayer Saturday, was dropped for the four-dayer. But the champions well-replaced him with Rajib, who picked up five wickets at the cost of 63.
His perfection helped the team packed the opponents on 225 in the first innings on day-1.
Opted to bowling first, skipper Ashraful got the success when Shahadat picked opener Imtiaz Hossain (0) up in the fifth delivery of the day's very first over. He also sent back Rajin Saleh (highest scorer with 68), Golam Maula (1), Ezaz Ahmed (21) and Anisur Rahman (8).
Ashraful also provided a proper support to Shahadat taking two wickets of Moniruzzaman (39) and Rezaul Haq (17).
Dhaka's opener Javed Omar (5) and one-down Sajjad Kadir (3) were unbeaten at the end of the first day after losing Mehrab Hossain Jr (0) on team's zero run.
Winning the toss, Khulna skipper Habibul Bashar decided to bat first, but except the captain, other batsmen could not justify their reputation as six others batsmen failed to reach even double figure.
After losing both the openers on 56 runs, one-down Bashar saw that his comrades went to pavilion one after another - Tushar Imran (2), Manjarul Islam Rana (14), Jamal Babu (5) as Ilias Sunny and Waskurani Palash shared eight wickets.
Bashar hit a fine 68 featuring nine fours and number seven Hasanuzzaman remained unbeaten with 28 that included one four and two sixes.
Chittagong skipper Nafis Iqbal and Aftab Ahmed remained unbeaten in the second wicket stand after putting 70 runs.
Nafis hit 63 runs with six fours while Aftab scored 32 featuring three fours. Earlier, Masumuddullah (25) and Nafis contributed 50 runs for the opening pair stand.
Rajshahi sent Barisal to bat first amid foggy weather in the delayed match, which began after the launch and was played for two sessions.
Barisal also made a foggy start after losing five wickets for 55 runs. Number five Towhid Hossain and number six Shahen Hossain provided a little resistance putting 43 runs for the sixth wicket stand before Shaheen (19) was caught by Anisur off Qumrul Hasan Hasan.
