Price indices fall at bourses FE Report 10/24/2005
Price indices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell Sunday, as the losing issues outplayed the gaining ones. The trade turnover, in terms of both volume and value, however, went up on the day. The DSE All Share Price Index closed at 1254.83 points, registering 9.997 points or 0.79 per cent decline from 1264.83 points of Thursday, the previous trading day. The DSE General Index slipped by 13.84 points or 0.77 per cent to close at 1650.22 points from 1663.06 points of the previous day. The DSE-20 Index dropped by 14.68 points or 0.87 per cent to end at 1664.70 points from 1679.38 points. About 2.69 million shares and debentures worth Tk 230.18 mil-lion changed hands on the day against 2.35 million shares and deben-tures valued at Tk 1679.38 million of the previous trading day. A total of 140 issues were traded on the day including 22 gainers, 104 losers and 14 remain-ing un-changed on the day, as estimated on the basis of closing prices. The total market capitalisation stood at Tk 222.53 billion from Tk 224.20 billion. Beximco Pharma performed as the top trade turn-over leader, in terms of value, on the day. Its 301,000 shares valued at Tk 27.41 million changed hands. The price of the issue fell by 0.93 per cent to close at Tk 74.20. Its price fluctuated between Tk 77.30 and Tk 73.90 on the day. The price indices on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also went down on the day, as the losers easily overwhelmed the gainers. The trade turnover, in terms of both volume and value, on the other hand, increased on the day. The CSE All Share Price Index moved down by 0.52 per cent to finish at 3341.43 points from 3358.93 points of Thursday, the previous trading day. The CSE-30 Index declined by 0.43 per cent to close at 3161.96 points from 3175.50 points. A total of 0.92 million shares and debentures worth Tk 49.46 million changed hands on the day against the previous day's 0.71 million shares and debentures valued at Tk 36.72 million of the previous day.
