SIRAJGANJ, Oct 13: The project implementation committee (PIC) of Chowhali upazila of the district is facing serious problems with the release of over Tk 20 million (2 crore) for the project because of internal crisis in the government-run political party unit and PIC of Chowhali, sources said.
According to the local government office, a total of Tk 2 crore and 27 lakh was sanctioned for one project and staying of 47 PICs at Chowhali. The work of the project was completed in scheduled time. For completing one such project, 47 PICs were appointed as per the government rule.
As per the rule, a treasury cheque of Tk 1 crore and 72 lakh was sent to the upazila based Sonali Bank branch in the first phase.
But it is learnt from the concerned office that their PIC failed to disburse the allotted amount appropriately among the PICs. The concerned PIC alleged that local government political party, the PIC and the bank had misused power.
"There would not be any problem if the cheque was properly distributed among the PICs and the local government political party," observed Chowhali upazila engineer.
On the other hand, when contacted the PICs said the amount was sent to Sonali Bank properly, but they failed to distribute the cheque due to local political pressure. They added that the said amount was distributed in the first phase but Tk 16 lakh out of Tk 37 lakh in 9 cheques was paid in the second phase among the concerned PICs.
