AL intra-clash injures 40 in Pabna

PABNA, Oct 12 (BDNEWS): At least 40 people including the general secretary of Awami League (AL) Upazila committee and the president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), were injured in a clash between two factions of the AL in Atgharia of Pabna Wednesday.
Police and witnesses said tension prevailed between the two AL factions for the last few days centring the formation of a new district committee.
A faction of AL demanded cancellation of the new committee. At a press conference Tuesday, they declared AL district committee president Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu MP persona-non-grata.
The leaders and activists of the rival group of the party tried to obstruct Dilu when he came to visit a Puja podium at Atgharia Tuesday night.
At one stage, the supporters of Dilu beat up Jewel, a follower of former MP Panjab Ali Biswas.
Protesting the incident, activists of BCL and Jubo League brought out procession and held a rally Tuesday night.
As a sequel to the incident, clashes erupted between the supporters of Dilu and Panjab Ali at about 1:00pm Wednesday.
