UN, govt urged for code of conduct to protect dignity of Prophet (SM)

The Council for Interfaith Harmony, Bangladesh, at its national conference Wednesday adopted a 13-point declaration requesting the UN and Bangladesh government to frame a code of conduct sanctifying dignity of all Prophets and all other great historical personalities of all faiths, reports UNB At the conference the council condemned any deliberate attempt to vilify them in any parts of the world. The National Conference 2006 of the Council for Interfaith Harmony, Bangladesh, (CIH,BD) was held at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC), at a time when blasphemous cartoons of the great Prophet of Islam in Europe stirred a global outcry. On the occasion, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia addressed a function at the venue in the afternoon. In its declaration the CIH, BD demanded of the governments of all countries to shun "policies that promotes hatred, differences and conflicts". The council also expressed its deep sense of solidarity and empathy to the people of different parts of the world who have been the "victims of unjust war, conflicts, retaliation, and political fanaticism". It condoled the death of people in any part of the world due to religious and political strife. It asked the faith leaders to undertake advocacy initiatives on social issues such as HIV/AIDS, gender equality, access to health and education.
