CCCI president for easing of WB credit terms to achieve MDGs Our Correspondent 3/4/2005
CHITTAGONG, Mar 3: Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury has emphasised the need for relaxation of stringent terms and conditions of the World Bank (WB) for extending credit. Addressing a seminar on "The World Bank in Bangladesh" organised at the CCCI auditorium in the port city recently the Chamber leader said relaxation of WB rules is required to help achieve the millennium development goals (MDGs) and facilitate poverty alleviation. The CCCI chief described WB as a very important partner for economic uplift of Bangladesh and said the Bank is extending significant cooperation to this country for its economic development and poverty alleviation by creating proper infrastructural facilities as well as adequate employment opportunities. WB Senior Communication officer in Bangladesh Subrata S Dhar replied to different queries raised in the seminar. The Bank is now, keeping direct contact with the people, he said. The meeting was also addressed, among others, by CCCI directors Ershad Ullah, SM Nuruddin, Rafiqur Rahman and Jyoti Prakash Datta. Former Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University Alamgir M Sirajuddin and representatives of various development agencies were present.
