PM creating ground for third force's intervention: 14-party

Awami League (AL)-led 14-party combine Thursday accused the Prime Minister of creating ground for the "third force's" intervention under a cooked plan to avert the alliance's election debacle, protect her from public wrath and thwart the opposition movement, report agencies.
The combined opposition urged the people to remain vigil always against the evil design of the BNP-Jamaat regime to prop up its unavoidable fall and ill efforts to hang on to power at any cost.
"We'll have to realise the demands for reforms of caretaker government and the election commission as per our proposals made on July 15 for free, fair and credible elections to consolidate the democratic system," AL general secretary and convener of the combined opposition liaison committee Abdul Jalil MP told a press conference at the AL central office.
Analysing Prime Minister Khaleda's speech at the BNP's grand rally at Paltan on December 21, Jalil said the PM virtually had declared war against the people and the opposition by issuing threats.
The BNP chairperson, Jalil said, gave four clear messages through her speech to the people -- First of all she hinted that BNP is determined to stage another controversial election like that of 2001 by rejecting the opposition's reform proposals.
Secondly, Khaleda indicated that she would not leave Jamaat under any circumstances, thirdly she will not take any effective steps against the Islamic militants and fourthly she hinted that the administration is with BNP.
He made a fervent appeal to the people to join what he called "do or die" movement for realisation of their 23-point minimum programme for establishment of a poverty-free country through reconstruction of the state, administration and society.
The AL general secretary said the government did not file sedition case against the bomber JMB terrorists who declared war against the state, constitution, judiciary and rule of law.
He said it is proven that the BNP-Jamaat coalition is the actual patron of the militants in the country as the bombers admitted their involvement with Jamaat-e-Islami. But the Prime Minister and the leaders of BNP and Jamaat termed the movement of the opposition parties against the militants a conspiracy to split the BNP-Jamaat coalition.
AL presidium member Abdur Razzak MP, Tofail Ahmed, Matia Chowdhury, Suranjit Sen Gupta MP, JSD executive president Mainuddin Khan Badal, general secretary Sayed Jafar Sajjad, Ganotantri Party president Nurul Islam, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, Workers Party secretary Bimal Biswas, Gono Azadi League president Abdus Samad and central leaders of Awami League, 11 party, JSD and NAP were present.
