Cheated people block road

Demanding the arrest of an alleged cheat, hundreds of victims came out on the streets, staged demonstration and blocked the roads creating a severe traffic jam at Jatrabari-Saidabad area for about four hours Sunday, reports BDNEWS.
The angry mob laid siege to 364 Meerhazirbagh office on WASA Road in Jatrabari under Demra thana, where they staged demonstration from 10 am to 2 pm.
Giasuddin, a so-called journalist who is editor of three underground newspapers, allegedly took the money from people promising them of giving high rate of interest.
Local people said Giasuddin, the editor of daily 'Amreetabazar' and weekly 'Bhalobasa' and 'Mukabela, started taking money from them two years ago by opening a cooperative association.
He assured the local people of giving plots, apartments and micro-credit along with high rate of interest against their deposited money.
The people, who went to his office Sunday to receive their money along with interest, became puzzled finding the office under lock and key.
The angry people instantly erected barricades on the road and chanted slogans against the alleged cheat.
Police rushed to the spot and cleared the busy road dispersing the protestors.
Demra police said that Sunday was the date to repay their money, but when they reached the office, the cheat had already fled the place.
Police said none was arrested and no case was filed in this connection.
